Bethenny Frankel Charters 4 Planes to Puerto Rico

One week after her trip to Mexico to aid victims of the devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake, Bethenny Frankel is on the move again.

The Real Housewives of New York City star — who is currently recovering from skin cancer removal surgery with 12 stitches on her face — traveled to Puerto Rico to help Hurricane Maria victims.

“This is a forgotten island,” she tells PEOPLE. “People have been living on their roofs for 13 days. It is like nothing I have ever seen. People’s entire homes and cars are immersed in mud, the likes I’ve never seen.”

Frankel, 46, chartered a total of four planes leaving from Miami, Fort Lauderdale and New Jersey to distribute more than 20,000 lbs. of donated medical and survival supplies: water, canned goods, diapers, baby food, medical supplies, toys, insulin (courtesy of Univision) — plus 2,000 pounds in non-perishable, nutrient-dense meals from Feeding America and City Harvest, $25,000 in cash gift cards and cash (courtesy of Yieldstreet) and $30,000 in Costco gift cards.

Besides her own money, Frankel paid for this out of thousands of dollars in donations from Andy Cohen, Donny Deutsch, Elvis Duran and others to her B Strong charity, in partnership with Developing Good.

Upon arrival, the planes were used to transport dozens of sick and wounded women and children, and cancer victims, from local hospitals to the United States for treatment.

The Global Empowerment Mission also helped with this cause, and Frankel is on track to raise more than a $1 million in donations and supplies for Puerto Rico alone.

Endorsed by FEMA and the State Department in Puerto Rico, Frankel stopped in towns surrounding San Juan, visiting homes, a children’s hospital and more.

“We arrived in the first town before their own mayor,” she says. “We pulled onto a street with a truck of basic necessities, and you would have thought I was giving out diamonds. What struck me was people politely waiting in line patiently. They are so proud. I gave them cash cards in envelopes, and they were emotional yet still proud. Their faith is intact.”

“There is no color on the island. Every palm tree is rooted. This bitch hit every inch of this island. The low death toll is only counting what happened when it hit, but a storm happens more gradually than a hurricane. Now is when people are dying. They are starving. They are thirsty. They cannot communicate. They cannot bathe themselves. They wash their babies and laundry in street water,” she adds. “It is a war zone. I do not play the blame game, but the 73 towns of Puerto Rico need to be methodically mapped out and visited, and the relief needs to be organized, delegated and executed.”

So far, Hurricane Maria — which ravaged the U.S. territory Sept. 20, leaving the entire island without electricity and destroying many homes — has claimed at least 16 lives in Puerto Rico, the Associated Press reports. Experts estimate that without electricity and supplies, that number could increase to thousands, and many residents are still without clean water, food and electricity.

She has already raised more than $300,000 for Houston and $150,000 for Mexico after their respective natural disasters.

Frankel is using Twitter as a platform to rally other celebrities to donate, as well as communicate with people on the island in need.

“As of 36 hours ago, my team of complete strangers as of 36 hours ago has managed to load and distribute 3 planes (with 4 on deck) medical supplies, food, petcare, hygiene, food and transport home desperate, elderly, sick people,” she says. “Everyone pitched in. Crisis and relief is all about communication and dropping zero balls. If I had a bigger army we could really make a dent. This thing has only just begun. It is a startup.”

“I need to also thank Guardians of Rescue, Omar Rosario, Nicole Castrillo, Saira Rivas, Margie Arbizo and Michael Capponi,” she concludes. “These people worked 24/7 on relief chats with her to make this happen. My friend Maria Menounos also reached out tirelessly help to connect with suppliers in her network. And without Twitter, this never would have happened. Twitter users literally saved babies’ lives by connecting me to pediatric hospital allowing me to transport patients home. It is the most incredible tool in the world.”

RHONY’s Luann D’Agostino Ends 7-Month Marriage

It’s over for Luann D’Agostino and husband Tom. The Real Housewives of New York City star announced Thursday via her Twitter account that she and her husband of seven months are calling it quits.

“It’s with great sadness that Tom & I agreed to divorce,” wrote the former Countess. “We care for each other very much, hope you respect our privacy during this sad time!”

A close friend tells PEOPLE it was Luann who officially moved to dissolve the marriage.

“She is sad,” says the source, “but she was the one who made the decision to file.”

The source reveals that Luann is going on vacation and “finding comfort” with her grown children, Victoria and Noel.

Adds the source of Luann and Tom: “They had lots of issues and really tried to make it work, but it was just obvious they weren’t on the same page.”

Luann’s RHONY cast mate Ramona Singer, who had previously gone on dates with Tom and who made no secret of predicting the relationship would be short-lived, was among the first to respond to the news, replying to the original tweet: “I am so sad for you.”

The couple’s Dec. 31 wedding was the main event of a lavish, three-day wedding weekend in Palm Beach, Florida, attended by several friends of the bride from various Housewives franchises.

Luann, 52, was previously married to Count Alexandre de Lesseps. Tom, 50, had not previously been married.

Beset by doubts about their relationship throughout their whirlwind courtship, the pair weathered divorce rumors in mid-July, with a source telling PEOPLE the couple had hit a “major rough patch.”

“Tom and I are in love, and marriage takes work,” Luann told PEOPLE at the time. “We are working on this together.”

One insider told PEOPLE in July that many of the couple’s issues stemmed from “trust issues” related to lifelong bachelor Tom’s previous infidelity and flirtatious personality that had been causing friction well before the wedding.

“There have been a lot of problems,” acknowledged the source. “She felt he was using her for her fame and he went from Ramona to Sonja to her. He’s a Housewife groupie.”

Luann herself told PEOPLE just days after word of newlywed troubles surfaced: “What couple doesn’t argue? Tom and I have a very passionate love affair going and that’s why we got married.”

Bethenny Frankel’s Ex-Husband Jason Hoppy’s Arrest

On tonight’s episode of Real Housewives of New York, Bethenny Frankel’s ex-husband is put on blast for his being arrested after a confrontation with Frankel at their daughter’s school.

An NYPD spokesperson spoke to Us Weekly and said that in January 2017, Hoppy was arrested after contacting Frankel “numerous times via email and FaceTime, and approached [the] victim making verbal threats.” Hoppy allegedly approached Frankel at their daughter Bryn’s school and said: You can play your game. It doesn’t matter. You can get 10 lawyers. There’s nothing you can do to stop me. You’ll be sorry. The case was then adjourned until April 26, 2017. Then, People reported that Hoppy filed for dismissal of the case.

But, it doesn’t look like this will happen, as a spokesperson from the New York District Attorney’s Office told People that:

Hoppy was arraigned on additional charges, including one count of stalking in the third degree, another count of stalking in the fourth degree and some additional conduct. The case was adjourned to Aug. 8 for a decision on motions.

After Hoppy’s arrest, his former attorney Robert C. Gottlieb released the following statement:

There are no words to express how saddened Mr. Hoppy is over his ex-wife’s unjustified actions. His only concern is his daughter and intends to vigorously fight these false charges.

For the last two seasons, Frankel has opened up about her emotional and traumatic divorce that she says has been like torture. Now, though the divorce has ended, she still has to deal with her ex-husband since they have one child together. On an episode of Real Housewives of New York, Frankel talked about the aftermath of her divorce, saying:

I don’t know why I’m being punished this way. My custody situation is over, my financial settlement is over, my apartment is sold, and yet I sometimes feel hopeless. And I sometimes feel like my ex is untouchable and I’m not going to be able to get out of this.

Frankel’s friend Carole Radziwill has said on the show that Hoppy has sent numerous insulting text messages, calling Frankel old, ugly and implying that she’s a bad mother.

Jason Hoppy and his legal representation have denied the allegations against him.
