Eminem to Donate Lawsuit Proceeds to Hurricane Relief

On Wednesday (Oct. 25) it was reported that New Zealand’s National Party would have to award the publishing company Eight Mile Style about $415K, after using a song similar to “Lose Yourself” in a 2014 advert. Now, one of Em’s rep has said that the Detroit rapper will be donating all of those proceeds to hurricane relief.

The rep was sure to clarify that Eminem did not file the lawsuit against the government himself, “Eminem was not a party to this lawsuit nor was he consulted regarding the case. Any monetary settlement he receives from it will be donated to hurricane relief. He encourages the plaintiffs, 8 Mile Style, to do the same.” This act of philanthropy should be useful as hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, have devastated many lives in Miami, Texas and Puerto Rico. A great deal of Puerto Rico is still without water or power.

The lawsuit was filed by publishers against the NZ party back in September of 2014 for the use of a song titled “Eminem Esque.” A judge ruled it infringed on copyright as it was very similar to Em’s original work. “‘Eminem Esque’ has substantially copied ‘Lose Yourself,’” the ruling states.

Eminem Attacks Trump in BET Cypher

Never one to be shy with his words, Eminem made a blistering return to the music scene via a passionate takedown of Donald Trump in a freestyle broadcast on BET’s Hip-Hop Awards.

Filmed Friday in his hometown of Detroit, the Grammy Award winner went after the president in a nearly five-minute cypher performance, where he referred to Trump as a “bitch,” and called him out for his handling of Charlottesville, and his recent attack on the NFL player protests.

In what Eminem has deemed “The Storm,” he rapped, “This is his form of distraction/ Plus, he gets an enormous reaction/ When he attacks the NFL, so we focus on that/ Instead of talking about Puerto Rico or gun reform for Nevada/ All of these horrible tragedies and he’s bored and would rather cause a Twitter storm with the Packers.”

Trump wasn’t the rapper’s only target, as he had a strong message for people who claim to be supporters of both men. “And any fan of mine who’s a supporter of his,” he continued. “I’m drawing in the sand a line/ You’re either for or against/ And if you can’t decide who you like more in your split/ On who you should stand beside/ I’ll do it for you with this/ F— you.”

Raising his fist in the air, a move he says is for former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the national anthem kneeling movement, Eminem concluded, “The rest of America stand up. We love our military and we love our country, but we f—ing hate Trump.”

Michael Jordan Donates $7M to Charlotte Clinics

In the past, many have criticized Michael Jordan for staying silent during trying times that affect people who mostly purchase his products. However, Michael Jordan is putting his money where the critic’s mouths are, as he reportedly donated seven million dollars to clinics in at-risk communities located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jordan and his brand are set to work with Novant Health, who announced Jordan’s donation earlier Monday. Jordan spokesperson Estee Portnoy said that their company and Novant began working together a few years ago, as Jordan was in search of ways he could help poor and disadvantaged communities in Charlotte. Portnoy noted that Jordan “really wanted to do something personally, he and his family, in the North Carolina area, separate from the work we’ve done with the Hornets.”

Marshawn Lynch Sits During National Anthem

GLENDALE, Ariz. — In his first game in an Oakland Raider uniform, Marshawn Lynch didn’t play a down. Yet he provided the most vivid image of the night, sitting for the national anthem before the Raiders’ 20-10 preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday.

The ex-Seattle running back, who came out of retirement to sign with his hometown Raiders, sat on an orange cooler with his arms resting on his knees, while others around him stood.

Although he rarely talks to the media, Lynch has voiced support for quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the anthem last season to protest what he saw as a pattern of police mistreatment of people of color.

Lynch was gone from the locker room by the time reporters arrived.

Coach Jack Del Rio said he spoke to him about the issue after the game.

“He said, ‘This is something I’ve done for 11 years. It’s not a form of anything other than me being myself,’” Del Rio said. The coach said that he told Lynch “just so you understand how I feel, I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem but I’m going to respect you as a man. You do your thing.”

“So that’s a non-issue for me,” Del Rio said.

Quarterback E.J. Manuel said he didn’t know Lynch hadn’t stood for the anthem.

“Obviously, we all support Marshawn because he’s part of our team, but I think that is more of a personal thing,” Manuel said. “I can’t really comment on it too much.”

Merck CEO resigns from Trump council over Charlottesville

Merck & Co Inc Chief Executive Kenneth Frazier resigned from U.S. President Donald Trump’s American Manufacturing Council on Monday, saying he was taking a stand against intolerance and extremism.

Frazier, who is African-American, is the only CEO so far to leave one of Trump’s advisory councils because of his reaction to the violence in Virginia. Prominent Democrats and Republicans criticized Trump’s response to the violence over the weekend.

A gathering of hundreds of white nationalists in Virginia took a deadly turn on Saturday when a car plowed into a group of counter-protesters and killed at least one person.

Trump had said “many sides” were involved, drawing fire from across the political spectrum for not specifically denouncing the far right.

“America’s leaders must honor our fundamental views by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal,” Frazier said in a statement announcing his resignation.

“As CEO of Merck and as a matter of personal conscience, I feel a responsibility to take a stand against intolerance and extremism,” he said.

Trump responded in a tweet, saying now that “Ken Frazier of Merck Pharma has resigned from President’s Manufacturing Council, he will have more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!”

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, which represents the pharmaceutical industry and lobbies on its behalf in Congress, declined to offer a statement of support for Frazier or to comment on Trump’s reaction.
