Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin Has Died of Pancreatic Cancer at Age 76

Aretha Franklin, the “queen of soul” known for hits like Respect and Think, has died in Detroit at the age of 76.

The legendary singer was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and announced last year she was retiring from music.

Franklin had more than 20 US chart hits over a music career spanning seven decades.

The star gave her final performance last November at a gala in New York held in aid of the Elton John Aids Foundation.

In a statement, her family said: “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart.

“We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins knew no bounds.”

The family also confirmed her death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type.

Aretha Franklin ‘gravely ill’ in Detroit hospital

Aretha Franklin is “gravely ill,” her family told Detroit’s WDIV-TV on Monday.

WDIV anchor Evrod Cassimy wrote in a tweet: “I spoke with her family members this morning. She is asking for your prayers at this time.”

This follows an earlier report from Roger Friedman’s Showbiz 411, saying that the 76-year-old soul legend is surrounded by “family and people close to her” in Detroit.

In March, Franklin canceled two concerts scheduled in New Jersey. According to a statement from her management team, she was following doctors’ orders to stay off the road and rest completely for two months, and that she was “extremely disappointed she cannot perform as she had expected and hoped to.”

Franklin’s most recent performance was on Nov. 2, 2017, for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York and her final public performance was at Philadelphia’s Mann Center in August 2017.

Franklin last performed in her Detroit hometown in June 2017. It was an emotion-packed concert for thousands at an outdoor festival downtown. She ended the performance with a then-cryptic appeal to the hometown crowd: “Please keep me in your prayers.”

Last year, Franklin announced her plans to retire after releasing one final album, saying she would perform at “some select things.”

A biopic starring Jennifer Hudson as Franklin is scheduled to start filming in 2019.

Eminem Attacks Trump in BET Cypher

Never one to be shy with his words, Eminem made a blistering return to the music scene via a passionate takedown of Donald Trump in a freestyle broadcast on BET’s Hip-Hop Awards.

Filmed Friday in his hometown of Detroit, the Grammy Award winner went after the president in a nearly five-minute cypher performance, where he referred to Trump as a “bitch,” and called him out for his handling of Charlottesville, and his recent attack on the NFL player protests.

In what Eminem has deemed “The Storm,” he rapped, “This is his form of distraction/ Plus, he gets an enormous reaction/ When he attacks the NFL, so we focus on that/ Instead of talking about Puerto Rico or gun reform for Nevada/ All of these horrible tragedies and he’s bored and would rather cause a Twitter storm with the Packers.”

Trump wasn’t the rapper’s only target, as he had a strong message for people who claim to be supporters of both men. “And any fan of mine who’s a supporter of his,” he continued. “I’m drawing in the sand a line/ You’re either for or against/ And if you can’t decide who you like more in your split/ On who you should stand beside/ I’ll do it for you with this/ F— you.”

Raising his fist in the air, a move he says is for former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the national anthem kneeling movement, Eminem concluded, “The rest of America stand up. We love our military and we love our country, but we f—ing hate Trump.”

Trey Songz Takes Plea Deal

It looks like Trey Songz – AKA Tremaine Neverson – got himself into some trouble, and this time it’s not anything to do with Halle Berry! E! News confirmed today the 32-year-old R & B singer, pleaded guilty to not one but two misdemeanor charges of disturbing the public.

Trey Songz Pleads Guilty To Two Misdemeanors

And what did he do exactly? Apparently, his arrest occurred because he wouldn’t get off the stage at the Joe Louis Arena on the 28th of December 2016.

When Songz was performing with other artists including, Young M.A., as well as Lil’ Yachty, organizers told him his time on the stage was coming to a close, so he freaked out.

Sources from the Detroit Police Department claim the singer became aggressive and visibly aggravated.

He grabbed microphones as well as monitors from the stage and started chucking them off into the crowd.

An insider said to E! News the Detroit Police attempted to de-escalate the situation but the singer continued to snap out.

Because of his actions, he was summarily arrested then taken into custody for the destruction of property and resisting arrest.

He stood in front of the court the following morning and was released on a bond of $25,000.

Lucky for Trey, he was given the option of pleading guilty and avoiding several convictions.

Trey took part in a plea deal, where the charges of resisting and obstructing justice, as well as aggravated assault were alleviated.

Unfortunately, for the singer, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation. If that isn’t bad enough, Songz has to take classes for anger management and will submit to screenings for substance abuse as well as pay restitution for his crimes. Hopefully, Trey learned from his mistakes and won’t do it again. However, we can’t help but wonder what is his side of the story?
